She was the most influential fashion designer of the 20th century. A woman who designed for women. She liberated women from frills and corsets and gave them freedom and elegance!
Chanel wanted women to be able to do daily activities with ease. Women loved her dresses, in them, they could ride trains, buses or bicycles. Her collarless jacket and skirt were revolutionary—emphasizing practicality over synched waist and fuss. The neckline leaves the neck free. She cut jackets without darts for the bust. She added functional pockets. Instead of a belt, her skirt had ribbed fabric around the waist. Her looks portrayed youthful ease, liberated physicality, and unrestricted confidence.

Coco Chanel gave women comfortable and stylish clothes to feel and look beautiful. She was the first to use new and unusual fabrics including stretchable materials to create freedom.
Chanel grew up in a convent and started sewing at twelve. Her bare and frugal teen years informed her stark style, which became a fashion revolution. Nuns wore belt hooks or clasps at the waist with a series of chains suspended for holding keys, scissors, and other accessories. The belt hooks became the inspiration for Chanel’s jewelry. And later she designed handbags with leather straps interlaced with metal hoops which were sleek and strong so women could go hands free.
